Arena leads ex-Metros to MLS Cup
November 21, 2011

Of all the idiotic decisions in the history of this franchise, the firing of Bruce Arena after his sole full season in charge of the club ranks at or near the top. Just four years after being shown the door, Arena did something we fully expected him to do here: turned around an underachieving Los Angeles team into a juggernaut, the winner of the last two Supporters Shields -- and now the MLS Cup to boot, as LA beat Houston 1:0.

And joining him as league champions are former Metros Mike Magee and Todd Dunivant. The former spent six years with Metro; he was sent to Los Angeles for a second round draft pick by Jeff Agoos, when a first round offer from Toronto was on the table. The latter was acquired right before Arena's tenure and then was traded away by the man himself for Kevin Goldthwaite... Clearly, with this franchise, no one is immune to idiotic decisions.
